Hospice Chaplain, Rev Matthew Hagan jogged 5km for 30 consecutive days in June 2020
raising an outstanding £13,430 for Southern Area Hospice.
Rev Matthew has been a chaplain at Southern Area Hospice for 11 years and is also Rector of Tynan, Aghavilly and Middletown Parishes. When Rev Matthew was made aware of the shortfalls in fundraising due to Covid-19 forcing all hospice fundraising events to be cancelled he felt that he had to do something to help and so he signed up to a fundraising initiative, Jog for June.
Rev Matthew has far surpassed his initial target of £500 within one week with his final total of £13,430 (including gift aid).
About his challenge Rev Matthew said “Having completed the challenge of jogging 5k a day to raise much-needed funds for the hospice I am absolutely astounded and overwhelmed by the generosity of family, friends, parishioners and the wider community and I am personally delighted that I have been able to jog 5k a day for 30 days having rarely jogged up to this challenge - so I see this challenge as benefiting not only the hospice financially but also benefiting me physically as well.”
I personally feel that it is a privilege to be part of the Hospice and to be part of the Chaplaincy team I have a great love for the hospice and everything that it stands for, including the outstanding care provided to both patients and their families throughout this pandemic.”.
The staff of Southern Area Hospice are very proud of their colleague and thank him for his exceptional fundraising challenge.
